After several weeks of planning, on Sunday, May 7, 2023, our Spring Clothing Drive bloomed on campus when parishioners, school community families, and friends of St. Mary’s arrived to leave their donations of gently used and new clothing to benefit the Long Island Society of St. Vincent de Paul. It was a beautiful day and a fantastic opportunity to come together and give back to those in need. Our parish SVDP Conference, St. Mary’s Elementary School’s National Junior Honor Society, and the Rosary Society’s Daughters of Mary collaboratively sponsored the event. According to organizer Rosa Stein, the parish SVDP president, “The combined efforts to promote this Clothing Drive resulted in a successful turnout of donors and helped us fill the SVDP truck. The event created an impactful way for all of us to help those who may not have the resources to purchase new items and ultimately will provide dignity to our underserved neighbors.”
Volunteers were on hand to welcome donors and assist with their items. Michelle Tripi, assistant principal for the Elementary School, mobilized students to help before and during the collection. “We gathered to attend the 10:30 AM Mass together and transferred an abundance of donations received at the School during the week from our families. It was great seeing the students in action – interacting with the adult volunteers and assisting those dropping off their items to make the Clothing Drive a success.”
Thank you to all of our donors and volunteers who helped us make a positive impact in our community and beyond. Besides filling the truck, you filled our hearts with your generosity!
