The “fire challenge” is an internet challenge which involves applying flammable liquids to one's body and then setting the liquids aflame, while being video recorded. The footage is then posted to social media sites.
An alternate version involves drawing pictures on a mirror with alcohol and then lighting it on fire. The first known fire challenge video was uploaded in 2012. The activity gained mainstream media attention in 2014. Recently the trend has resurfaced.
On 1/29/25 a Long Island teen was seriously injured making one of these videos. Parents and school officials are encouraged monitor storage / use of flammable liquids and discuss the dangers of these social media challenges.
