St. Mary's Good Samaritan House (formerly Parish Social Ministry) is beginning another support group for the bereaved and those struggling with unresolved loss starting September 14, 2024. The sessions will take place on Saturdays from 9:30 - 11:00 AM for ten consecutive weeks (ending on November 14).
The primary goals of the group are to help the participants learn about the grief process, develop skills to manage their grief, and help them adjust to living in a world without the deceased. The group is open to anyone who has lost a spouse, partner, parent, child, or sibling – including non-parishioners and people of other faiths.
Marie Granieri and Dr. Robert Windorf will facilitate our Saturday sessions this fall. They were both trained by Dr. Lou Sabatini, a bereavement counselor with over thirty years of experience. In addition to their training, Marie Granieri has a Master’s Degree in Sacred Theology and Dr. Robert Windorf is a long-time educator and has worked with the Passionists to facilitate retreats for young adults.
At St. Mary's, we welcome people of all faiths to participate in our bereavement sessions. However, it should be noted that our bereavement course, at times, will utilize the Catholic Faith, through prayer, bible references and Catholic poems, to assist in the healing process.
There is a one-time registration fee of $10.00 to cover the costs of the course. To register for the group, please make a check payable to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan House and mail it to the Church of St. Mary, Good Samaritan House, 1300 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, NY 11030.
